They are hairstyles of clay figurines from the latter half of the Jomon period. These intriguing turban-like hairstyles make us wonder about the hair length and techniques of styling. It seems they are not suitable for physical labor and/or everyday life. These clay figurines provoke much thought as to whether they depict appearances of the Jomon people only on special occasions or of people with special status and/or roles who spent everyday life with such hairstyles.
