1 (large pic., pp. 118-119):
Wild boars were the first animal forms to be used in pottery decoration.

From this site dated to the early Jomon period, a large amount of pottery with wild boar head projections and shards of the projections have been excavated.

Similar types of projections of wild boars are found widely in the areas of Nagano, Yamagata and Tokyo as well.
The shape of the wild boar projection changed quickly and was simplified to a mere circular design. 。

2 (small pic., p. 119):
One of the oldest zoomorphic clay figurines that appears to be a wild boar head (complete shape with full recovery), dated to be older than those in No. 1.
